12 years after the adoption of the Laying Hens Directive, EU Commission is starting infringement procedures against non-compliants States
Commission urges 13 Member States to implement ban on laying hen cages

During the today's Midday press briefing, EU Commission has announced that letters of formal notice requesting for information, have been sent to Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Romania, concerning the cage-eggs ban. On Wednesday the Romanian constitutional court rejected an amendment that allowed mass killings of stray dogs. According to the amendment No. 912 of 22 November 2011 it was legal for dogs to be euthanised after only three days in the animal shelter.
